Connelly School of the Holy Child, a girls’ independent school in the Washington D.C. metro area, is accepting applications for a part time AP Biology science position for the 2017-2018 academic year. An ideal candidate must be genuinely enthusiastic about science, be able to give dynamic lectures, conduct discussions, and organize and supervise labs, as well as adhere to the AP Biology curriculum and prepare students for the exam in May. It is important this candidate has outstanding biology knowledge in order to make abstract ideas concrete and relevant to students as well as have developed varied pedagogical strategies for teaching science. This candidate must be eager to work collaboratively with other department members and be prepared to teach students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Previous experience teaching AP science is desirable. Additionally, proficiency with the integration of digital tools in the science laboratory, such as the application of digital probes and associated software, and willing to innovate in her/his classroom is desired.
An ideal applicant would either have experience with or be open to training in the Holy Child model of educating the whole person, through creative lessons that support the growth of each student and inspire her to take risks to meet her full potential. In addition, an applicant should have a bachelor’s degree in biology or related field as a minimum, and have taken courses in secondary education pedagogy. Experience and advanced degree preferred, as well as an active commitment to a positive school community.
