The Librarian reports to the Assistant Head of School. Responsibilities include the following:
Ensuring that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.
Empowering students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
Instilling a love of learning in all students and ensure access to information.
Collaborating with classroom teachers and resource specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, and assessing student learning and instructional effectiveness.
Providing the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program.
creating an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with teaching staff ?
Roles and Responsibilities:
Serving as sole librarian for grades 6 – 12, teaching information literacy, digital citizenship and research skills lessons, conducting book chats, presenting authors and providing special programming events.
Developing web-based resources and co-teaches in classrooms to launch research projects and support meaningful technology integration.
Providing instructional design consultations to faculty as needed.
Managing Library Department budget.
Purchasing, cataloging, and circulating ~12,000-volume multimedia materials collection.
Acquiring and maintaining library database software, online resources, and desktop and mobile devices.
Overseeing copying, printing and laminating.
Coordinating all textbook acquisitions for grades 9 through 12.
Cooperates with Technology Department personnel to provide and maintain 24/7 access to digital information resources for the entire learning community.
Maintaining active memberships in professional associations and remains current in professional practices, developments, information technologies, and educational research.
Participating actively in the school community as a faculty advisor, by serving on committees, substitute teaching or coaching, chaperoning events/trips, and attending assemblies as requested.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
