We are seeking a middle school (grades 6-8) division head beginning in the 2018-19 school year. The middle school division head will join our team of 13 dedicated administrators who oversee the operations of The Harker School and the fulfillment of our mission.
The middle school division head is responsible for overseeing all operations and programs on the middle school campus, this includes:
Oversight of all programs including but not limited to; academic, student supervision, counseling, safety and security
Responsibility for every aspect of the middle school day-to-day operations
Maintaining the middle school budget
Working toward a resolution of all problems - both routine and unique - as they arise.
Being aware of the educational, physical, social, and psychological needs of the school community, and develop plans for meeting those needs
Communicates community information to parents and students, serving as a liaison between our middle school parents and the school
Evaluate smooth operation of the division and report concerns to Assistant Head of School
Keep an open dialogue with families regarding parent concerns
Maintain a comprehensive calendar of school events and keep the entire school community informed of various school programs and activities
Strive for unity, harmony, and cooperation through tact, helpfulness, respect, and the recognition of individual differences and the special abilities and strengths of each teacher
Conduct regular meetings with faculty that will deal both with routine school matters and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern
Observe and evaluate all faculty as well as guide and support professional development opportunities
Meets with Department Chairs to discuss departmental concerns
Meets regularly with Learning Innovation and Design Director and community managers to plan and review programs
Monitor student academic and behavior progress
Meet regularly with division counselors to review student progress
Oversee the Middle School Advisory Program
Coordinate the Character Development Program
Oversee clubs and club activities
Parent and Student Orientations
Back to School Event
Oversees the 6th grade Coastal Exploration Trip, 7th grade National Parks Trip and the 8th grade Washington DC Trip
Oversee the Cancer Walk and other division wide service projects
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in education or school administration preferred
2 – 3 years' experience as a school administrator in independent schools preferred
Proven success at working collaboratively in educational leadership
Dynamic instructional leader with a solid understanding of the developmental and curricular needs of students of the particular division
