Charlotte Latin School is seeking a Physical Education and Health teacher for grades 6-9. This position will also serve as the Head Varsity Volleyball coach. The Head Varsity Volleyball Coach is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teach Physical Education grades 6 - 9.
Coordinate all aspects of the sport, including practice plans, game management, film upload and review, scouting and statistics management
Organize and run summer workouts, and recruit summer help
Organize and host team camp for grades 7-12
Consult on or handle parent and player concerns
Manage uniform and team equipment needs
Hire additional assistant coaches as needed
Answer questions and provide information to parents on club, clinic and camp opportunities
Post game results to website and manage team webpage
Communicate with parents and players
Mentor and consult with JV and MS coaches on practice content, systems and Gold Medal teaching methods
Provide support to athletes with college aspirations and respond to college related inquiries
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Supervise Assistant Coaches
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health or closely related field
Experience teaching in an independent school preferred
Three to five years’ experience teaching Physical Education and/or Health classes
3+ years Head coaching experience with a high school, competitive middle school or club team, or high level playing experience in college
Experience with or willingness to learn the Gold Medal Squared system of teaching volleyball (Gold Medal team camp training provided)
A positive, upbeat coaching style
After-school availability starting at 3:30 PM for practices and games from August through October
Willingness to learn or experience teaching Experiential Education activities
Exhibit a commitment to wellness and working with the whole child
Exhibit a love of working with children in this age group
Strong classroom management skills, commitment to safety and civility
Strong desire to participate in the whole life of the school
Exhibit willingness to grow with a hunger for learning new material and new ways of teaching
Show a great deal of flexibility in working with colleagues and students, and sharing classroom space
Willing and able to resolve conflicts with colleagues, parents and between students
The ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and serve as a collaborative team player
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Proficient with using technology as an instructional complement
