Crystal Springs Uplands School, a coeducational independent day school in the San Francisco Bay Area serving students in grades 6-12 on two campuses, is seeking an English teacher to teach two sections of 8th grade English on its middle school campus in Belmont during the second semester of school year 2017-2018, beginning on January 2, 2018 and ending early June, 2018.
The ideal candidate will have middle school teaching experience, knowledge of the middle level learner, and interest in being part of a dynamic group of teachers who work collaboratively.
Students at Crystal Springs develop into independent and successful life-long learners by following a program that focuses on skill acquisition and content knowledge. Though the school can be described as academically rigorous, the rewards of such a program can be seen in the daily successes of our students. Whether it is struggling through an analytical essay or an enigmatic laboratory experiment, we believe students learn best in an environment that challenges them to reach beyond what they know to solve problems using the skills they have learned. Students are encouraged to question their teachers, seek new ways toward learning, and discover the complexity of the world around them.
More specifically, we are looking for candidates who are middle school centric, that is, candidates who:
Possess a desire to collaborate with colleagues and a commitment to encouraging the potential in every student
Possess demonstrated success/effectiveness with 11-13 year olds
Are able to differentiate and teach to multiple learning styles
Have a sense of playfulness and are eager to collaborate with a grade-level team
Have experience with meaningful tech integration for this generation of learners
Are excited to work with students outside of the classroom by leading an advisory and delivering a robust human development program
Incorporate teaching practices and curriculum development, which are developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive and competent
We are also looking for candidates who:
Possess a college degree in English or related or relevant discipline
Are motivated, experienced middle level teachers who are attuned to developmental, social, and emotional needs of middle school students
Are passionate English teachers who excel in both content knowledge and pedagogical expertise
1-2 years of teaching experience
