The Hewitt School is an independent, K-12 girls’ school located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan near Central Park. The School’s enrollment of 525 girls is distributed across three divisions: lower school (K-4), middle school (5-8), and upper school (9-12). Hewitt’s mission statement reads: “Hewitt empowers girls to discover their full intellectual and creative abilities, to pursue their passions and personal best, and to lead lives of consequence with character, compassion, and conviction.” Currently, the student faculty ratio is 6:1 and 88% of faculty members hold an advanced degree. Hewitt students come from across Manhattan, as well as Brooklyn, Harlem, the Bronx, Queens, Long Island, Westchester County, Connecticut, and New Jersey.
The School’s current endowment is $18 million, and the annual operating budget for the School is $22 million. In the 2016-17 school year, Hewitt broke an annual fund participation record with 96% of parents contributing a total of $1.8 million. The School’s Leadership Team and Board of Trustees are about to start planning for Hewitt’s 100th anniversary campaign in 2020.
The Director of Advancement manages and leads all fundraising and advancement programs including: annual giving, capital giving, alumnae relations, planned giving, prospect research, foundation and corporate giving, advancement communications, and event management. The Director also oversees event management for the academic divisions, admissions, and Parents’ Association.
