Saint James School seeks to employ a High School principal to provide dynamic and innovative leadership for a college preparatory ninth through twelfth grade program. The ideal candidate, who reports to the Head of School and serves as a member of the school’s leadership team and Head’s Council, will be able to offer an academic background, training, and experience supportive of effectively leading the division. In addition, the candidate will exhibit the skills, energy, enthusiasm, and dedication necessary to ensure the success of all aspects of the high school program while facilitating the accomplishment of the school’s mission which states that, “We are committed to challenging and assisting students in realizing their individual potential and preparing them for lives of responsibility, service, and achievement.” A competitive candidate must demonstrate strong leadership abilities and establish caring and productive relationships with all school constituents.
The high school principal oversees the operation of the division in all areas including those listed below:
Serves as the instructional leader of the high school
Establishes an environment and culture characterized by positive relationships between constituents
Proactively supervises the high school faculty and staff to ensure adherence to best practices for high school instruction and classroom management
Supervises and enforces the policies and rules included in the student disciplinary program detailed in the Saint James School Parent/Student Handbook.
Monitors and supports programs and practices within the high school division which directly address age-appropriate social and emotional development
Actively facilitates and monitors the implementation of a curriculum which supports the academic skill and content standards established by Saint James School
Actively facilitates and monitors the selection of curriculum programs, materials, and teaching tools which support the academic skill and content standards established by Saint James School
Ensures effective communication among constituents including students, parents, faculty, staff, school administrators, and trustees
Promotes and articulates the characteristics and strengths of the high school program to current constituents, as well as prospective families and the larger community
Plans and executes an effective program of professional development for the high school faculty and staff
Shares responsibility with other school administrators, faculty, and staff in reaching goals established through the school’s vision, mission, and re- accreditation and strategic planning documents
Conducts regular faculty evaluations and assist faculty members with the development and implementation of individual professional development plans as prescribed in the faculty evaluation process
Functions effectively in a technology-rich environment and works with faculty members in a collaborative effort to ensure the integration of a variety of tech tools and software into the learning process
Collaborates with the middle school principal to ensure a smooth transition from middle school to high school
Candidates for high school principal are expected to maintain the highest level of professionalism and ethics at all times in interacting with students, parents, and school personnel.
Skills and Qualifications for Employment:
A degree in secondary or higher education is required in order to ensure a strong understanding of adolescent development, curriculum and materials, and age-appropriate instructional and classroom management strategies.
An advanced educational degree (Master’s level or above), preferably in administration or school leadership, is required.
Successful completion of a minimum of five years of teaching experience and/or equivalent administrative experience is required. (Teaching and/or administrative experience at the high school level is preferred.)
Proven record of success in a school administrative or leadership position is required. Independent school and high school administrative experience is preferred.
