We are seeking a skilled Communications and Media Relations Specialist to join our flourishing organization. The Communications and Media Relations Specialist will share stories that capture the essential and novel aspects of the Germantown Friends School vision, educational experience, program, and faculty with local and national media. To do so, this person will engage school leaders and faculty, forge strong relationships with local and national media, and actively pitch and place news and features about the school. Demonstrated experience placing stories and building relationships with national media is a must.
As an important member of Germantown Friends School Communications and Marketing Office, the Communications and Media Relations Specialist will be responsible for promoting GFS activities through news media and other public relations or marketing activities.

Successful candidates will have:
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or related field.
Four to six (4-6) years of experience working within the field of Communications, preferably in public relations, as part of a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and/or educational institutions, as well as public relations agency experience, is a plus.
A proven track record of placing high-level articles in print, broadcast, online and social media outlets, including influential blogs, is desirable.
Clear aptitude to immerse oneself in areas of expertise and reflect that understanding in the development and execution of media relations programs is beneficial.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite for basic layout and graphics is a plus.
Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed.
