Boulder Country Day School is a private, co?educational day school that celebrates its 30th Anniversary in September of 2018. As our mission states, BCD is committed to educating well-rounded students in a safe and welcoming environment where academic excellence and character development are among our highest priorities. BCD is located in the Gunbarrel neighborhood of Boulder, approximately 7 miles east of the center of the city and serves 350 students in grades PS?8. The Elementary School Head reports to the Head of School and serves as the chief administrator of the Elementary School. As such, he/she supervises approximately 15 teachers and staff, and guides the education of a growing population of 190 students in grades K-5. The Elementary School Head also works closely with the two other Division Heads (Preschool and Middle School) and serves as a key member of the School’s Administrative Leadership Team.
Boulder Country Day seeks an inspirational and visionary educational leader to head its Elementary School. The position requires significant teaching and proven administrative success at the Elementary School level, a dedication to the School's mission, proven leadership in a Responsive Classroom school, attentiveness to detail, collegiality, ability to build trust, sense of humor, clear and skillful written and oral communication, a love for Elementary School age students, and the joys and challenges of educating them. A graduate degree is preferred.
To illustrate the scope and significance of the position, broad areas of responsibility are listed below:
Curriculum ? Provide vision for and oversee the development and implementation of the Elementary School curriculum. With the Director of Instructional Support and Differentiation, work to continue efforts to support classroom teachers in differentiating instruction. With the Preschool and Middle School Heads, work to refine one curricular strand per year. Review and implement a schedule that best serves the elementary school, its teachers, and its students.
Teachers ? Supervise and inspire Elementary School teachers and specialists. Communicate Elementary School activities and concerns to teachers. Lead searches for all Elementary School teacher and staff vacancies. Train and on-board new Elementary School teachers and specialists through regular meetings. Create opportunities for on?going teacher growth. Supervise and participate in the teacher evaluation process. Support teachers in discipline issues with students. Ensure high quality learning experiences, a safe, inclusive, and welcoming classroom environment, and implementation of Responsive Classroom curriculum.
Parent Relations ? Communicate Elementary School activities and programs to the parents through meetings and regular newsletters. Lead parent discussions about age?appropriate expectations and behaviors. Receive and resolve parental concerns. Counsel parents with regard to their children in school – homework strategies, discipline strategies, and social interactions, among others. Organize and host Round Tables and other Elementary School Events.
Enrollment ? Speak to and visit with tours. Participate in admission process of Elementary School applicants. Read applicant folders. With Director of Admissions, formulate yearly enrollment management strategy with the goal of growing Elementary School enrollment. Work with Middle School leadership and faculty on retention efforts as well as transition from ES to MS.
Related Administrative Duties ? Host bi-monthly Student Support Team (SST) meetings with the Director of Instructional support and Differentiation, School Counselor, the learning specialists and homeroom teachers for each grade level. Attend meetings of the Administrative Leadership Team and both Academic and non-Academic Committees. Oversee Elementary School budget.
