The research assistant acts as an active contributor to the execution of research studies and data analysis reports. In addition, the research assistant is responsible for managing externally conducted event evaluations for the organization and supports the VP for SIRT in managing logistics related to the execution of the organization’s annual research agenda.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Participates in the creation of reports for research analysis, data visuals, and/or presentations. This includes collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data from DASL (NAIS’s data collection system) or external sources (U.S. Census, Department of Education, think tanks, etc.), and presenting the findings to members in the form of reports and/or presentations.
Participates in the development of survey instruments and/or prepares research reports as requested by the VP for SIRT on topics identified as key for members, such as parent perceptions and school selection, governance and leadership, student wellness, financial sustainability, student outcomes and assessment, staff management, international recruitment, risk management, among others.
Manages event evaluations conducted by an external contractor and self-administers evaluations when necessary. This includes assisting event teams in the creation of survey instruments and managing the contractor in the administration and analysis of the surveys.
Manages and maintains the Research Clearinghouse by posting research studies to the NAIS website, identifying outside research studies for posting, and ensuring all links are functional.
Handles all logistics related to the conducting of focus groups, in-depth interviews, RFP processes, and other research endeavors done on behalf of the organization.
Supports the Vice President of SIRT in the management of project logistics, including drafting and reviewing project outlines/contracts, maintaining distribution/billing lists, and organizing files in the SIRT intranet.
Assists the research team as requested in writing the research column for Independent School Magazine and blog posts for the website.
Assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Bachelor’s degree required in education, economics, statistics, or related field
At least three years of experience in supporting a research program; experience in designing research instruments and analyzing and writing research reports preferred
Proficiency in SPSS, STATA, Excel, and/or other statistical reporting tools
Knowledge of Tableau, Power BI, and/or other data visualization tools
Strong research and analytical skills
Knowledge of independent schools (preferred)
Ability to handle multiple tasks/activities simultaneously while maintaining quality
Ability to work independently while still being an effective, contributing team member
Ability to serve on a geographically dispersed team
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; able to adapt and learn new software and web-based systems
Excellent customer service skills
Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong computer proficiency
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
