Position Title: ASSOCIATE LIBRARIAN Department: UPPER SCHOOL FTE: 1.0 (NON-EXEMPT) Reports to: UPPER SCHOOL LIBRARIAN
POSITION SUMMARY The US Associate Librarian partners with the Librarian to support the higher level curricular and research needs of the students and adults in our division. Primary tasks include the management of several key areas of our library program, including library circulation; the accurate and timely cataloging of a wide range of academic resources, including books, ebooks, audiobooks and materials in other formats; management of heavily utilized course reserves; providing skilled research support to students engaged in academic research using print materials, databases, and other electronic sources; and providing strong, effective leadership and supervision of a heavily utilized Learning Commons. The successful candidate is expected to be a full participant in the life of the Upper School (e.g., participating in assemblies, campus days, and various school programs).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Take lead responsibility for circulation functions in the library, including running data and reports, and managing overdues and billing. • Take lead responsibility for the cataloging and physical processing of library materials, which include books, audiobooks, DVDs, ebooks, and other formats. • Provide firm, effective supervision of a busy Learning Commons utilized by students and adults throughout the day. • Maintain a strong working knowledge of academic databases, including JSTOR, Academic Search Premier, GoogleScholar, and other relevant tools. • Provide skilled research assistance to students in support of their coursework. • Demonstrate the capability and independence to serve as the person in charge when the Librarian is teaching or meeting with others. • Take lead responsibility for periodicals management, including maintenance and weeding. • Manage the selection and ordering of library office supplies and book processing materials. • Help maintain the library as an attractive, welcoming, efficiently run space for reading, study, and research needs. • Generate and create interesting and topical displays. • Engage in reader’s advisory, and create promotional materials to encourage reading for pleasure. • Conduct regularly scheduled collection maintenance tasks, including inventory, shelf reading and weeding to maintain a well-managed collection. • Close the library at the end of the school day. • Complete other tasks as required. • Complete required H.R. trainings each year (CPR, First Aid, mandatory reporting, handling of hazardous materials, etc.)

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE We seek candidates who have completed library program coursework from an accredited college or university, or have equivalent practical experience with the job tasks in a library setting. Candidates should have practical, recent database and library reference experience, and relevant experience in working with teenagers in an educational setting. We strongly prefer candidates who possess experience with MARC record copy cataloging experience in a library, including various formats such as books, DVDs, audiobooks and ebooks.
WORKING CONDITIONS Full-time in the US Library, Monday– Friday, 40 hours per week, on an academic calendar, with additional days for start-up and closure required. Attendance at faculty meetings is expected. Evening/weekend meetings are negotiable. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs., reach and bend, and move about a school campus required.
