Summary: The Lower School Reading Specialist provides reading intervention and support for students in PK-grade 4 and serves as a consultant school-wide on reading, writing, language arts assessments, curriculum, and intervention. The Lower School Reading Specialist works closely with the Student Support Services team to support students, particularly those with learning differences, struggling to be successful in the classroom. This position is a ten month position (academic year).
Qualifications for this position:
Master’s degree or higher in reading and/or special education; candidates with similar degrees and related training in specialized instructional practices and experience will also be considered.
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience with classroom experience instructing students with learning differences.
Training and certification in a multi-sensory approach to reading intervention such as Orton Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, and/or Wilson Language Program.
Experience in assessment and test interpretation; familiarity with standardized and informal assessments commonly used in diagnosis of reading, writing, and math difficulties.
Familiarity with current research in reading, math, and learning disabilities.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Familiarity with Independent School settings is an advantage.
