In support of Pacific Ridge’s mission, the Assistant Head of Middle School works in conjunction with the Head of Middle School to support the day-to-day and long-term initiatives of the Middle School. The Assistant Head assists in coordinating and connecting the Middle School’s development, organization, cohesion, and promotion of curriculum and programs for the seventh and eighth grades.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Assistant Head also teaches one academic class, as do all Academic Administrators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Works in conjunction with teachers and advisors to oversee the middle school experience as the students transition into seventh grade, through eighth grade, and into high school.
Along with the Head of Middle School, the Assistant Head plans and leads the grade-level team meetings with a focus on faculty development and student support.
Works with Head of Middle School to assume or delegate the lead on curricular projects and unique grade-level student experiences, such as orientations, curricular integration grade-level projects, trimester questions, and field trips.
Partners with the Head of Middle School and Dean of Studies and Student Life for managing all discipline issues. Serves as the initial point of communication for issues; manages minor behavioral, attendance, and academic issues.
Collaborates with Head of Middle School to develop and supports the middle school co-curricular programs, including advisory, Community Life, and Skills.
Serves as the point person for coordinating scope, sequence, and vertical alignment of the seventh and eighth grade academic programs.
Serves as an evaluator for a group of faculty members to further professional growth.
In conjunction with the Middle School Activities Director, takes the lead on activities, events, and programs that will establish school identity and foster school spirit.
Works with the Middle School Head and Dean of Studies and Student Life to develop parent education program and build larger community.

Pacific Ridge School is a college preparatory co-educational independent school, offering a rich and challenging program to 560 students in grades 7-12. Pacific Ridge School opened in 2007; finished its permanent high school building in 2010, and its athletic center in 2012.
