ABOUT THE JOB:
The Controller reports to the CFO/COO and is responsible for all accounting and financial reporting including the audit, budget and general ledger. The Controller monitors and updates internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data. The Controller also oversees the day to day function of accounts payable, accounts receivable, student billing, financial aid and payroll.
Responsibilities of the Controller include but are not limited to:
? Oversee and supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing and payroll while insuring best practices.
? Review and prepare general journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations and analyses.
? Manage accurate records and prepare reports of annual, restricted and capital funds in coordination with the Development Office.
? Reconcile all external software records with the general ledger.
? Establish and maintain proper internal control procedures.
? Reconcile and record monthly investment activity.
? Review monthly bank account reconciliations.
Financial and Other Reporting:
? Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly basis.
? Update and maintain monthly projections.
? Prepare monthly reporting packages for review.
? Review and update business office procedural manual.
? Assist with Financial Aid process including analysis and reporting.
? Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and long range financial planning.
? Review quarterly budget to actual reports for distribution to department heads.
? Discuss quarterly reports with department heads as needed.
? Prepare reports as required under bank loan covenants including financial covenants.
? Prepare reports for submission to NYS Department of Education and NAIS.
? Manage compliance with governmental regulations and evolving regulatory environment.
? Ensure that school is in compliance with all loan covenants as required by lender.
? Work with Human Resources coordinator to insure accurate and timely short and long term disability filings.
? Perform other duties as assigned.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with 5-10+ years of accounting experience. CPA preferred.
Recent experience with not for profit accounting and FASB standards, preferably 5+ years in a similar position. School experience a plus.
Strong knowledge of Finance.
Experience with Blackbaud and/or similar accounting applications preferred.
Proficiency with Excel a must.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a high functioning team.
Excellent organizational and management skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize work.
Must be able to manage, mentor and develop staff.
Must be team player, results oriented, flexible and diplomatic.
