Latin School of Chicago is seeking an upper school (grades 9-12) computer science teacher to begin in the fall of 2018.
It is an exciting time for computer science at Latin, and our Junior Kindergarten through 12th grade program is growing annually. We teach computer science from an interdisciplinary, liberal arts perspective and aim to teach our students the inherent capabilities and limitations of technology and how to use coding and computational thinking to solve problems, not just how to write code. In the upper school, our computer science offerings are a 2 semester introductory Computer Science Principles sequence and a series of advanced electives, including Honors Advanced Programming, Web Application Development, Modern Computing: NAND To Tetris, and Algorithms and Data Structures.
This is a full-time faculty position in the upper school. The ideal candidate will be passionate about both education and computer science and will have both teaching experience and knowledge of computer science concepts and applications, including computer programming. An advanced degree in computer science or a related field is preferred. The position will require the ability to work collaboratively with the JK-12 department to enhance and develop curriculum, including interdisciplinary projects. The ideal candidate will possess the skills to develop lessons and environments that deeply engage students and will be familiar with pedagogical strategies like inquiry-based and project-based learning. We are looking for someone who cultivates an inclusive and supportive climate for all students, especially students from underrepresented backgrounds, and who fosters appreciation for differences in our community. Knowledge of the K-12 computer science landscape, including CSTA Standards, would be beneficial.
