Latin School of Chicago, an independent K-12 school located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park area, is seeking a full-time Band Director within the Performing Arts Department. The position includes teaching middle school and upper school band classes, conducting concert performances and special events throughout the year, and conducting the annual musical. A master’s degree in music education with an emphasis on instrumental/band is required, along with at least 5 years-experience working with middle school and high school-aged band students. Extensive knowledge of all wind and percussion instruments and proficient conducting skills are a must. Piano skills are a plus, as is proficiency in current best-practices in music technology.
Responsibilities include: teaching band classes for 4th Grade Band, 5th Grade Band, 6th Grade Band, 7/8 Grade Band, Upper School Wind Ensemble, Upper School Jazz Ensemble, and occasional drum line. The 4th Grade Band is a beginner program and is the feeder for the school, with students starting on all typical band instruments. The Band Director coordinates and hires all adjunct instrumental faculty and maintains all related band equipment and practice rooms. The teacher is required to do assigned supervisions, attend all faculty meetings, and, if called upon, act as a middle school homeroom teacher or upper school advisor.
