The Upper School English Long-term Substitute is a part-time position beginning in late January and continuing through the end of the school year. The primary responsibilities include teaching two, Tenth Grade English classes. The substitute will fulfill half the teaching duties of the full-time teacher on leave. As a dedicated professional, the substitute will be expected to develop daily lessons and create and evaluate assessments in collaboration with other English faculty teaching the same course. The individual will be expected to complete grading and assist with individual students, as well as perform all basic administrative duties (ex. maintain attendance records and a current online gradebook, conduct parent conferences, etc.). Additionally, the substitute will be required, on a limited basis, to attend selected meetings, events and activities after regular school hours beyond the normal school day.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in English or a closely related field (advanced degree preferred). The candidate must have strong interpersonal communications skills and solid technology skills for use in instructional and professional tasks. Knowledge of Quaker history and education is desirable, but not required. For all positions, SSFS seeks teachers who value the importance of issues of diversity and can both share and teach differing points of view.
Physical Requirements: Daily computer time and extensive standing; the ability to navigate stairs; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting; and the ability to lift/carry boxes up to 25 pounds.
