Kent Place School seeks a Director of Diversity and Inclusion to lead, coordinate and support the school’s diversity, community engagement, and inclusion work as connected to our mission . The Director of Diversity and Inclusion will work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, families, and trustees to nurture and strengthen a diverse, equitable, and culturally responsive learning community. The Director of Diversity and Inclusion is a member of the administration team and reports to the Head of School.
Responsibilities of the Position:
Partner with the administrative team to develop short and long-term strategic diversity goals and initiatives with meaningful and measurable outcomes.
In partnership with administration and the Diversity Committee, lead the school in implementation of the recommendations from the school’s recent diversity climate assessment.
In partnership with the Director of Studies and division directors, assist in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and retaining faculty, staff and families who reflect and support a diverse and inclusive school community.
Work with the division directors and the Director of Studies to facilitate global multicultural integration across the curriculum and divisions, and to provide essential training in culturally relevant equity pedagogy and the creation of culturally responsive classrooms.
Collaborate with teachers, department chairs, division directors and student support personnel in ongoing efforts to ensure all students are seen, known, and supported for who they are.
Coordinate and facilitate ongoing diversity programming for faculty, staff, students, and parents, including the Diversity Committee, Diversity and Equity Parent Group, Faculty/Staff SEED Seminar, Diversity Council, GSA, Black Cultural Association, Latin@ Cultural Association, Kaleidoscopes, and others.
Provide leadership to promote inclusivity, working to ensure that every member of our school community is welcome and supported.
Collaborate with the school’s signature programs, including The Ethics Institute, the Girls’ Leadership Institute and the Global Learning Programs.
Serve as a resource to the community for matters of diversity, inclusion and multicultural practices.
Support and develop student leadership.
Coordinate annual faculty, staff and student travel to diversity conferences and workshops.
Be an active, visible, and engaged presence within the school community.
Qualifications for the Position:
A master’s degree and a minimum of five years of school administrative experience are preferred
Strategic thinking skills with a record of accomplishment in implementation of programs in diversity, equity and inclusion in school settings
Ability to facilitate open, productive, and solution-based conversations with groups centered on creating change
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent communication and writing proficiency
Dedicated learner with personal and professional integrity and the capacity to serve as a model of openness and acceptance
A sense of humor
Ability to establish working relationships with students in a Preschool-12 environment that supports the development of leadership skills in a global society
