Maret, an independent K-12 school in Washington, DC, seeks a full-time school librarian to join its vibrant Middle and Upper School Library and Center for Inquiry. Responsibilities include teaching weekly classes in the middle school; collaborating with teachers in grades 5-12 to teach project-based research skills and develop curriculum; promoting a lifelong love of reading in the middle and upper schools; actively participating in library curriculum development, collection development, technical services, readers advisory, reference, circulation, and administrative tasks; and acting as a student advisor.
A strong candidate will have experience teaching and developing lesson plans, an ability to work at the middle and upper school levels, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and feel passionate about books and reading. We are looking for an independent and creative self starter who can develop and execute their own ideas for library initiatives, a motivated self learner with the ability to stay on top of emerging trends in libraries and technology, an organized multitasker who is excited to work on short- and long-term projects in every area of the library, a team player with experience working collaboratively, and a voracious reader who is excited about children's and young-adult literature. Qualified candidates should have a Masters of Library Science or at least three years of teaching experience.
