Annie Wright Schools serve students from age three through high school. Annie Wright Lower and Middle Schools offer co-ed programs in Preschool through Grade 8, while separate Upper Schools for boys and girls offer day and boarding options in Grade 9 through 12.
Annie Wright is seeking a Middle School Learning Specialist to begin on August 20, 2018.
The Middle School Learning Specialist provides direct support to optimize student learning and serves as an educational resource to teachers and families in the Middle School. The Learning Specialist is responsible for:
assisting students with executive functioning and organization; developing intervention plans or individualized accommodation plans for students with documented learning challenges; ensuring students are receiving appropriate accommodations; supporting teachers in implementing accommodations and differentiation practices; maintaining effective communication with families and with teachers; assisting the Director of Middle School with reviewing student progress and section placements; and collaborating with Learning Specialists in the Lower and Upper Schools. The Learning Specialist may also teach in alignment with the mission and philosophy of Annie Wright Schools and with the IB Middle Years Programme framework. S/he fulfills all faculty duties and maintains good communication with families about student progress.
The ideal candidate holds a MA in Education, Special Education, or a related field and/or an endorsement or certification in special education; has experience providing learning support and teaching at the Middle School level in an independent school; demonstrates familiarity with current research and best practices in learning, differentiation, and teaching; and demonstrates an understanding of and enthusiasm to work with and care for Middle School students.
