Hawaii Preparatory Academy is seeking a Upper School Principal beginning July 1, 2018.
The Upper School Principal is responsible for all activities involving students and faculty at the Upper School. The Principal ensures that congruency is maintained between the school’s mission and all the activities in the division. Pursuing and achieving excellence requires that the Principal work to lead and support all members of the Upper School faculty and staff and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling and calendar, curriculum development, program evaluation, personnel management, budgetary management, and emergency procedures.
This position reports to the Dean of Academics. The Upper School Principal oversees the day-to-day operation of the Upper School. The division consists of approximately 400 students, grades 9 through 12, and 50 faculty members.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in addition to classroom and administrative experience. It is important that candidates have strong leadership, organizational, communication, curriculum development/implementation, and team-building skills. This position requires strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and parents. A strong affinity for supporting all elements of the Upper School student experience is essential.
Hawai`i Preparatory Academy, founded in 1949, is an independent coeducational school providing a full range of opportunities for students from kindergarten through grade 12. Our boarding program admits students in grades 9 through 12.
The school has two campuses in the town of Waimea (Kamuela) on the island of Hawai`i. The Lower and Middle Schools are located on nine acres in the heart of Hawai...`i's ranching country, while the Upper School is located just two miles away on a 200-acre campus at the foot of the Kohala Mountains.
