Ransom Everglades School is seeking applications for a full time, Middle School Spanish teacher in the World Languages Department, beginning in August 2018. This faculty member will contribute to and teach in our new middle school Spanish language program. All middle school students at Ransom Everglades study Spanish and our curriculum is an advanced, proficiency-based program offering six different levels of Spanish to challenge students of all backgrounds and abilities in Spanish. The curriculum emphasizes speaking and listening, along with reading, writing, and culture. Our goal is that students will attain proficiency after three or more years of studying Spanish, and that most will study another world language in the upper school, so that Ransom Everglades graduates students comfortable communicating in English, Spanish, and a third language. Candidates will contribute to the department’s work developing curriculum and pedagogy for middle school students, as well as school-wide conversations about interdisciplinary and project-based learning and the integration of technology in teaching and learning. Candidates should be comfortable with the School’s value for inquiry-based, student-centered learning. Prior teaching experience in Spanish is required; prior independent school teaching experience and strong skills using technology in proficiency-based language education are preferred. Applicants must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish; a Master’s degree is preferred.
