The New School seeks a full-time math and physics teacher to teach two sections of upper level math (AP Calculus AB to 11th graders and AP Statistics to 12th graders) and Physics to 9th graders in addition to co-leading one section of project-based learning.
This teacher will be responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student an awareness and appreciation of the role of mathematics and physics in everyday life and the workplace. Each math class is a small group of 8-10 students. As part of the project-based curriculum, the math/physics teacher will also help lead extended projects outside the classroom in collaboration with other New School teachers and Project Specialists, and integrate physics, engineering, modeling, statistics, and data analysis topics relevant to project work into each curriculum.
Essential Job Functions Below are some of the tasks required of this position:
Develop curriculum in collaboration with TNS math teachers and teach the following high school math classes:
AP Calculus AB
Develop curriculum in collaboration with TNS science teachers and teach the following high school physics class:
Physics for 9th graders
Assist with one section of project-based learning classes—co-develop extended projects which combine the work of multiple disciplines and take students into the city
Document all syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and other curricular materials
Use detailed data analysis of student performance to inform best practices
Faculty Collaboration and Planning
Attend two faculty meetings per month and scheduled faculty work days to allow for collaboration, professional development
Attend summer planning (one week following the end of school and one week before the start of school)
Participate in and attend all recruitment events (e.g., Information Sessions and Open Houses)
Participate in planning and attend all Exhibitions, Curriculum Nights, Parent Events
Serve as an advisor for 8-10 students
Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families and colleagues through regular email and conferences

Undergraduate degree in math or science
