Position Summary: The Arts Department is seeking, for the 2018-2019 school year, a highly-qualified and dynamic teacher who combines significant knowledge in Dance and pedagogy to teach beginner, intermediate, and advanced dance classes - modern and ballet. As a part time position, specific workload will be based on student demand.
The Hotchkiss dance program is part of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, comprised of a team of highly talented music, visual arts, and theatre faculty. The dance program utilizes state-of-the-art facilities, including a dance studio, a black box theatre, and a 550-seat auditorium. Dance instruction is offered both for academic credit, as part of a student’s course load, or as a Dance Company - a non-credit co-curricular activity held throughout the year. Credit students are expected to demonstrate steady progress, follow specific curriculum and assessment criteria established by the department, and offer a minimum number of public performances.

Qualifications: The candidate will be an accomplished dancer and experienced teacher, with 5 years minimum teaching experience. A bachelor’s degree in dance is required, while a M.F.A. in dance or dance education is strongly preferred. Ability to teach dance embracing a variety of dance methodologies (Cechetti, Vaganova, French school, Horton, Limon, Graham, Cunningham) is required. A passion for teaching young students, in addition to the ability to work well within an institutional setting, is essential. The ideal candidate will be:

Duties & Responsibilities:
Teach dance classes - modern and ballet - to beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. Follow specific departmental guidelines regarding repertoire choice, teaching methods, assessment and grading rubrics. Keep a teaching syllabus for every student, and provide parents with clear and comprehensive written comments throughout the year. Communicate effectively with students and faculty using the school’s available platforms: email, calendar, google documents, and Canvas. Manage dance studio facilities, and coordinate performances with the department head and the technical director.
Compensation: Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience and education level, and meals when school is in session.
