Kent Denver School is looking to hire an innovative, student-oriented, passionate individual to join the Kent Denver Information and Innovation Team (our merged technology and library departments) as a technology and design specialist. In this new position, this individual would be a part of the inaugural group that will design, launch, manage, and teach in the Rollins Institute for Technology and Design, Kent Denver’s first Institute. In addition to managing equipment and resources in two new spaces housing the Rollins Institute, this person will have opportunities to work with students to create their own adventure through self-directed study, with faculty to effectively enhance their curriculum with Technology and Design principles, and with our wider community to impact our city through technology and design.
This position is a member of the Information and Innovation Team, whose primary roles occur in the Rollins Institute of Technology and Design. In conjunction with other Institute staff, this position will:
Laboratory Staffing & Equipment Management
supervise our two Rollins Institute spaces working with both students and faculty in the space
develop policies and procedures to ensure the safe operations of all equipment
serve as a guide and consultant to students embarking on the self-directed study portion of the Institute
assist teachers as they integrate technology and design projects into their classroom.
support students and teachers who are working on class projects and individual pursuits
assist in the purchasing, maintenance, and support of all equipment related to the Rollins Institute of Technology and Design spaces
maintain a proficiency in technology and design tools and equipment
manage the inventory and handling of materials and supplies
develop and teach a once to twice a week Middle School Technology & Design Elective
co-teach a maker unit of Freshman Seminar: Innovation course, a required course for all Kent Denver freshmen
lead after-school hour-long courses in Technology and Design to interested Middle School students
help train and grow a cohort of Technology and Design professionals to work with our students related to the Rollins Institute
develop partnerships for students to make a community impact using their Technology and Design skills
curate Technology and Design industry explorations for our students that give them a feel for the depth and breadth of the profession
attend meetings and perform other duties as assigned as a member of the Information and Innovation Team.
participate in opportunities to advise, lead extracurricular activities and work in other areas of the Information and Innovation Team as discussed with the Chief Information and Innovation Officer
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Engineering, Design Technology, or related field
previous work in a school environment, preferably with teenagers, is desired
relevant industry, job, or hobbyist experience with technology and design skills.
comfort using rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, etc.
comfort using a wide variety of power tools and equipment
familiarity with technology including computer-aided design tools, electronics, computer software and some programming.
demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to proactively streamline processes, solve problems, and customize solutions that benefit community members
Frequently moves technological equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across campus for various classrooms and events needs.
40-50 hours per week, including some evenings, nights, and/or weekends.
