Search re-opened. The Speyer Legacy School, an independent K-8 school for accelerated learners in Manhattan, seeks a Lower School (grades K-4) Head, starting July 1, 2018. Reporting to the Head of School and participating in the Speyer’s Administrative Council, the Head of the Lower School is an intellectual and cultural leader of a diverse faculty that serves a population of accelerated learners. The Lower School Head will
Maintain and support alignment between the divisional practices and
the School’s Mission;
Support the intellectual development of accelerated learners;
Act as the educational leader of the Lower School in support of the two-teacher model in the classroom;
Function as the primary implementer of the division’s programs, expectations, and behavioral guidelines;
Observe, supervise, and help evaluate the faculty in reference to teaching, curriculum development, and collaboration in a co-teaching environment;
Help to maintain a creative and safe environment in which learning can take place;
Make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring and retention, and the assignment of faculty;
Participate in the orientation of new and continuing teachers; and
Support harmony and collaboration in the community through tact, helpfulness, respect, and a recognition of the individual differences and strengths of each community member.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of administrative experience. An advanced degree in educational administration or an academic discipline is required, as is experience with lower school students. Knowledge of the gifted student population in the lower school grades is essential to success in this position.
