North Shore Country Day School, a JK-12 independent school near Chicago, seeks a dynamic, full-time Upper School English teacher for the 2018-2019 Academic Year. North Shore is eager to consider applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities.
While a bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree is preferred. Additionally, we seek candidates with three or more years of experience, a demonstrable talent and passion for teaching English to Upper School students, and a deep commitment to developing their students’ skills as readers, thinkers and writers. Past experience teaching Advanced Placement Literature is strongly preferred. Ideal candidates will be believers in and cultivators of the ‘growth mindset,’ excellent written and oral communicators, collaborative and valued colleagues, and life-long learners who are committed to their ongoing professional development.
Because North Shore has a 1:1 program 6th-12th, candidates should be skilled integrators of 21st century technology into their teaching practice. Additionally, all candidates should be able to add to the life of the school through advising, coaching and/or supporting the school’s strategic initiatives.
Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter specific to the role at North Shore Country Day School, a resume, a written statement detailing their philosophy/approach to their work, and a listing of professional references (it is helpful to know the context in which the reference worked with the candidate and have both email and phone contact information for each reference). All information should be submitted to electronically to email@example.com
North Shore offers competitive salaries that are commensurate with experience. Additionally, North Shore provides an excellent employee benefits program, including health and retirement benefits, tuition support for children’s attendance at North Shore, and professional development funding to support summer study, attendance at conferences/workshops, travel, and advanced degree work.
