Laurence School, a K-6 independent day school in Los Angeles, seeks an innovative and experienced Drama Teacher beginning in June for the 2018-2019 school year. The Drama Teacher is responsible for instruction in the theatre arts for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. The teacher will have proven classroom management skills, excellent communication skills, and experience working with elementary children.
Classroom Responsibilities: •Create and teach a comprehensive and innovative K-6 theatre arts program. •Prepare and execute thoughtful units of study designed to reach the multiple learning styles of students. •Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment. •Consistently and clearly communicate with colleagues, administrators and parents
Additional Responsibilities: •Direct Upper Division Musical, Lower Division Musical, and Kids Court. Co-direct winter holiday performances (K-3). •Collaborate with performing arts team to plan and execute school performances. •Collaborate with teachers to ensure integration with other subjects, including school productions. •Attend regular Tuesday afternoon faculty meetings. •Assist in leading Friday morning assemblies. •Actively participate in all in-service and orientation days.
Minimum requirements: •Bachelor’s degree •Experience (at least 3 years) teaching drama and improvisation to elementary aged children, (preferably in an independent school setting) •Proven experience directing theatrical performances
