Crystal Springs Uplands School, a co-educational independent day school serving students in grades 6-12 on two campuses is seeking a part-time (.75) counselor on its Middle School campus in Belmont, California, located on the Peninsula, in the San Francisco Bay Area. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of counseling experience, knowledge of the middle level learner, and interest in being part of a dynamic group of professionals working in our new Middle School, which opened Fall, 2017.
The Middle School Counselor is expected to offer services and develop programs that meet the school’s mission. The person in this position collaborates closely with the Head of the Middle School, Dean of Students, the Academic Support Specialist, and Grade Level Team Leaders to implement best practices for Middle School counseling services and social-emotional learning.
More specifically, we are looking for candidates who will
Help students navigate normal developmental challenges and difficulties. Assess when students need ongoing psychotherapy or mental health services outside of school. Support the normal growth of and support of students who are not facing an imminent crisis. Respond to psychological crises as they arise. Assist faculty, staff and parents in their understanding of the developmental needs of middle school students Provide limited counseling services to students and families seeking (voluntary) support. Provide follow-up support (case management) to students and their families Provide outside counseling and mental health referrals to students and families Crisis Intervention – Assessment and clinical support for students (and their families) in crisis. This includes, but is not limited to, 5150 (involuntary placement due to suicidal/homicidal intention and Child Protective Service (mandated reporting status) situations. Serve as a consultant to faculty and administrators, as related to individual students and issues. Consult with outside clinical and medical support personnel when approved by the family and student to provide on-campus support for students. Uphold legal and ethical obligations associated with the role of counselor in a school setting (most especially those upholding confidentiality and reporting). Are experienced in practices that are developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive

Teach Wellness courses to students in grades 6-8 Collaborate with faculty responsible for implementing our SEL program (known as the Human Development Program) Assist our parent education group with coordination and delivery of parent education events and programs Play an active role as an advisor in our Advisory program.
Candidates should possess the following
Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, School Psychology or substantially related field Licensed as Psy.D., Ph.D., LMFT or LCSW to practice in the State of California, or if holding pre-licensure status, substantial direct experience working with and supporting adolescents and their families for at least 5 years If holding a clinical license from another state, being committed to obtaining the equivalent license in California. Knowledge of laws, regulations and ethical guidelines relating to delivery of mental health services in the school setting Proven experience with program development and implementation Proven experience as a teacher or public speaker with children and adults
