The Theatre Faculty will develop and implement effectively integrated curriculum and programs by instructing, co-teaching, directing and collaborating for theatre classes and performances for Punahou’s curricular and co-curricular programs, forging strong and integrated links between various K-12 departments. The faculty will collaborate with the Theatre Directors to bring together all aspects of the theatrical production – script, actors, costumes, and staging. They will collaborate with other faculty and staff throughout the Punahou community to ensure effective management of facilities and resources and foster relationships throughout the theatrical community both locally and nationally. The ideal candidate will create a positive, supportive learning environment, and serve as a role model to students. The ideal candidate will be flexible and open-minded with respect to learning styles; prepares students to be responsible and independent citizens; and contributes to a culture among colleagues that models collaboration, continuous learning, reflective practice, peer support, and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the School.
Position Details: Department: Theatre Status: Full Time Regular FLSA Status: Exempt Work Year: 9 Months Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30AM – 4:00PM. Schedule may vary depending on theatrical rehearsals and/or performances.
Bachelor’s degree in drama, theatre or performance. Master’s degree in Theatre is preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching and directing experience in theatre.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability in education theatre production. including set, light and sound design.
Ability to teach courses in theatre at all levels, including courses such as Introduction to Theatre, Musical Theatre, classical and contemporary scene study and independent study.
Demonstrated success in leadership and classroom management skills.
Flexibility to meet job requirements beyond the school day and school year.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks during a consistently high demand and deadline sensitive school year.
Ability to communicate well with multiple constituencies, including students, parents, colleagues, boosters, and external organizations.
Demonstrated ability to utilize technology that is effectively integrated into the curriculum and to enhance communication and productivity.
Familiarity with the mission, goals and objectives of an independent school environment.
