Emerson School is seeking a full-time Director of Development. We are searching for a talented, team-oriented candidate to direct the Development Office and its staff, to work effectively with our Head of School and Board of Trustees, and to proactively serve our entire school community. The Director is responsible for all aspects of fundraising, with the goal of attracting the maximum gift support possible to the School. S/he reports directly to the Head of School and meets regularly with the Board of Trustees. A bachelor’s degree is required.
Lead the School’s development program
Handle the annual preparation of a fundraising plan for review and approval of the Head of School, in conjunction with the Development Committee of the Board
Lead the creation of the development budget, and lead the reporting of performance against that budget throughout the year
Lead the School’s stewardship strategies and policies in conjunction with the Board of Trustees
Handle the development and maintenance of positive relationships with donors and key stakeholders
Support the Head of School and Board of Trustees in ensuring that they have the development information and analysis they need on a regular and ongoing basis
Support the Head of School and Board of Trustees in long-range development planning
Lead the School’s development activities
Lead all aspects of School fundraising, including prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and consultation coordination, for the following activities:
Any future Capital Campaigns (as approved by the Board of Trustees)
Corporate and foundation proposals
Other special events
Handle the creation and communication to the School community of fundraising guidelines
Oversee additional fundraisers as developed by the School’s faculty and parent organization
Lead in recording and thanking of all gifts
Oversee processing of all gift income, including data entry and receipting
Oversee staff and volunteers connected with development activities
Lead the School’s Development Office
Oversee all aspects of Development Office responsibilities
Lead the strategic planning, performance measurement, and continuous improvement activities of the Development Office and its processes
Oversee the Assistant Director of Development Support the Business Office with annual audit activities and reconciliation of revenue and expenditures
Lead the talent development efforts, such as training and conferences, of the Assistant Director of Development
Lead, with the Director of Marketing and Communications, in the regular and timely communication of all fundraising activities and results
Handle submission of fundraising data to the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS)
Support the Director of Communications and Marketing in alumni relations
Compensation and Benefits:
The appointment is a full-time, year-round, administrative position and the compensation package will be very competitive nationally and commensurate with experience, degree attainment and the national independent school and college markets. All inquiries and nominations are kept confidential.
