General Statement of Responsibilities: The Business Director provides administrative leadership on behalf of the Board, College and parent body of MCWS by taking responsibility of operational and financial school matters. The Business Director ensures streamlined operations among the business departments and clear, timely and effective communication in our school community, and with the community at large.
Nature of this position: This position works in close collaboration with the Pedagogical Director. Together, these positions work in support of the mission of the school, consensus building, and the practice of service leadership. A commitment to the principles of Waldorf education is essential.
Founded in 1984, Maine Coast Waldorf School now serves over 270 children from parent/infant classes through high school. We are an accredited Waldorf program with over 35 full-time faculty members. We have recently completed our new high school building and four additions on our main campus: a designated space for educational support, a new office complex, a music and movement classroom, and a commercial kitchen and café area. Our campus is situated on 80 beautiful acres in Freeport, Maine.
Skills and training required:
Exceptional leadership, organizational and fiscal management skills
Measurable experience in management, preferably in a nonprofit or educational setting
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field
Proficiency with technology including Microsoft/Apple suite of products, Internet based programs, and aptitude to embrace new ones as they surface
Expertise with budget planning and management of sustainable program, personnel and facilities development.
Ability to manage day to day responsibilities while furthering long-term objectives of the school
Be a warm, responsive presence to the entire community, readily approachable and able to resolve concerns or questions with integrity and diplomacy. This includes work with town officials and service providers.
Additional Salary Information: Salary from low to mid $50,000 range. Benefits include health insurance, modest retirement plan, 80% tuition remission for children attending the school.
