Girls Crew Program Head & Girls Head Varsity Coach (2018-19)

Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for a girls crew program head and head girls varsity coach for the 2018-2019 school year. Lakeside operates its own boathouse in Kenmore, WA, a ten-minute drive from campus. The fall season begins Monday, August 20 and concludes in mid-November. Winter training starts in mid-November and concludes in mid-February. The spring 2018 season begins Monday, February 25 and concludes in mid-June (Nationals). Program management responsibilities would commence at a mutually agreeable date no later than Monday, June, 4 2018.
The girls crew program head and head varsity coach, reporting to the director of athletics, will join an athletics program that includes 23 varsity teams, most of which have both sub-varsity and middle-school counterparts. The girls crew program includes two squads (Varsity and Novice) at the Upper School and a learn-to-row program at the Middle School. The program head and head varsity coach is directly responsible for the coaching of the girls varsity team as well as oversight and coordination of the entire girls program as well as some management duties for the entire program (boys and girls). The boys program is led by the boys program head who is also the boys head varsity coach. Specific responsibilities include:
Compliance with all Lakeside School and US Rowing policies and procedures;
Supervision and instructions of girls crew student-athletes during all team activities;
Maintenance and inventory of crew program equipment and apparel;
Development of practice and competition schedules;
Oversight of the crew budget;
Hiring and evaluating all assistant, novice and learn-to-row coaches;
Management of the learn-to-row summer camps and summer training sessions;
Development of a long-term vision for the girls crew program and the creation of a teaching curriculum (7-12 scope and sequence) to support that vision;
Support of multi-sport participation for student-athletes;
Attendance at faculty meetings when out of season;
Attendance at monthly program head meetings led by the director of athletics;
Participation in ad hoc committees created by the director of athletics to serve the school;
Attendance at monthly meetings with the director of athletics when out-of-season;
Commitment to being a presence on campus; and
Promotion of balanced achievement in all areas of school life for student-athletes.
Requirements and Qualifications
Successful candidates must be 25 years of age, possess a valid Washington State driver’s license, and be available for all practices and competitions from 3 pm during the week with additional availability on Saturdays. Experience coaching rowing at the club, high school, or college level is required with head coaching and program director/manager experience preferred. References should address the candidate’s ability to successfully instruct a wide range of student-athletes; work collaboratively with all constituencies related to an athletics program; and develop a rowing program. Additionally, candidates must have a clean driving record so that they are able to drive students in school-provided transportation; candidates must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and must possess, or obtain prior to their season, First Aid and CPR certifications as well as a Washington State boater certification.
