The Director of Communications will be responsible articulating and promoting, in partnership with the Head of School, the school’s leadership team, and other colleagues, the unique mission, pedagogy, and program of the school to internal and external constituents. The Director of Communications will manage a team of talented staff in various roles including digital assets, editorial, and several full time and part time writers.
Build, lead, and manage the communications team of employee staff, contractors, and volunteers
Maintain, evolve, and implement communications policies and practices
Oversee all content creation, including written, graphic, photographic, audio, video, and multimedia, distributed through all channels, including web, email, print, social media, digital signage, etc.
Oversee and maintain all content archives
Oversee all internal and external communications, including weekly, seasonal, ad hoc, and special event communications and presentations reinforcing the mission, pedagogy, program, “Notably Nueva” characteristics and experiences, and life of the school through the creation of the website, Nueva Digest, Nueva Notes, Nueva Journal, magazines, annual report, annual calendar, school letters, speeches, and other vehicles
Assist in developing and implementing strategic communications, branding, and public relations plans and programs for the school
Support admissions, development, faculty/staff recruitment, college relations, outreach, publications, advertising, media relations and capital campaign needs
Oversee and manage annual communications calendar for all key web, print, and social media
Promote consistent communications, messaging, branding, etc., as appropriate, across all departments, divisions, campuses, and programs
Provide crisis communications support as needed, including the utilization/management of the rapid notification system, and serve as spokesperson in times of crisis or controversy when appropriate
Serve as the media liaison with print, online, TV, Radio and other media outlets
Monitor media coverage and social media outlets; track and provide notifications
Manage the department budget
Solicit input from stakeholders on major initiatives, manage data collection, and evaluate tactics in support of communications plans
Proven strategic and creative communications and marketing thinker
Excellent “hands-on” storyteller with a passion for entrepreneurism and education
Outstanding public relations and marketing abilities using multiple media including social media, internet, and print
Strong experience with video and multimedia storytelling, messaging, content creation, and production
Demonstrated success managing acquisition and retention campaigns
Experience building teams and working in fast-paced, dynamic, start-up type environments preferred
Actively engaged in professional development and best practices
Interest in and understanding of education broadly and independent school, college, and nonprofit environments specifically
Familiarity with current software, technologies, and practices including extensive use of website and social media platforms
Experience working in a nonprofit and during a capital campaign, strongly preferred
Demonstrated planning and project management skills
Strong and demonstrated experience leading and engaging all stakeholders – trustees, colleagues, parents, students, alumni, other donors, partners, and volunteers
Actively engaged in professional development and current on best practices
Personable, positive, helpful personality; customer service mindset
Sensitivity, discretion, and a sense of humor
Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously
Ability to manage competing demands, and adapt to frequent or unexpected changes

10+ years of relevant post graduate institutional advancement experience
Bachelor degree required and relevant advanced degree preferred
