The Williston Northampton School, an independent co-educational boarding and day school in Easthampton, Massachusetts, is a culturally diverse educational community of approximately 540 students in grades 7-12. We are seeking to hire a full-time English teacher for the 2018-19 school year. Teaching responsibilities will likely include teaching three sections in the Middle School and may include teaching in the Upper School. Strong candidates for this position will have a few years of teaching experience, ideally in independent schools. An advanced degree is preferred, but not required.
All candidates should possess demonstrable passion for teaching, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage and intellectually excite students in the pursuit of learning. This position includes involvement with our afternoon program, as well as student advising. Depending on the interests of the candidate and the needs of the school, residential responsibilities could be part of this position. Driving a school mini-bus is also an expectation of this position. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license; must have the ability to work in a school environment by successful completion of all legally required and school required background checks including the state mandated CORI, Criminal Offender Record Information, SORI, Sex Offender Record Information and Fingerprint based criminal background check.
It is important that candidates possess the flexibility, energy, commitment to teamwork and appreciation for adolescents that life in an independent school boarding community requires.
