Middlesex School seeks a permanent full-time teacher of Visual Arts, beginning in the 2018-19 academic year. Middlesex is a coeducational, college-preparatory, boarding secondary school of 400 students located in Concord, Massachusetts. Academic responsibilities include teaching introductory level courses in drawing and 2D design, as well as introductory through advanced ceramics and sculpture courses and overseeing the daily operations of the ceramics studio, including equipment and materials. We seek candidates who have experience teaching at the secondary school level or higher, and strongly prefer artists whose own practice reflects serious engagement with conceptual and formal approaches to art making. Candidates should also have a specific interest in curriculum development as it pertains to ceramics and sculpture.
Passion for the subject and eagerness to engage with colleagues over pedagogical and curricular matters are crucial qualities that the School seeks in candidates. In addition to classroom teaching, the position includes athletic coaching, student advising, and evening/weekend supervisory duties. A willingness to participate with enthusiasm in all aspects of a residential school community is essential.
