Greens Farms Academy seeks an experienced teacher and leader to serve as English Department Chair (5-12th grade) to begin in August of 2018.
The ideal candidate will be a master teacher, with at least five years of teaching experience, a graduate degree in English, a collaborative and student-centered approach, and a passion for working with middle and upper school students. The department is committed to discussion-based classes, textual analysis, and close teacher-student collaboration on writing. The chair will model these practices in his or her own teaching, as well as mentor members of the department as they hone their skills. The chair will also be a champion of the department’s commitment to supporting students as they publish and perform their work outside the classroom.
As the leader of a thriving and experienced 5-12 department, the chair will support and inspire a team of 10 faculty members. Key responsibilities include promoting and refining a vision for English learning within our community, fostering a vibrant literary community on campus, thinking strategically about the program across two divisions and about the needs of students in a changing world, managing faculty on a day-to-day basis, supporting opportunities for professional growth, working with the administrative team on hiring and faculty evaluation, overseeing the departmental budget, managing the course placement process, connecting to peers at other schools, and being a spokesman for the school’s English program regionally and nationally. The chair reports to the Associate Head of School and works closely with the heads of the middle and upper schools.
For all positions, we look for candidates who have demonstrated cultural competency and a commitment to fostering an inclusive community.
