St. Joseph's Academy is seeking a dynamic leader to take College Advising Program into a new era. SJA has a solid track record of success with 99% of its students being accepted for college admissions. 100% of those who apply are accepted. The Director of College Counseling manages the operation, and, with the president and principal, sets the vision and goals for the department and how it serves each student and collaborates with teachers. The new Director will have an opportunity to take the college counseling process to the next level with a new facility being built this summer to specifically address the increasing needs of our students and families.
Create, execute and monitor systems that ensure an efficient and effective college application process
Codify and institutionalize all processes, procedures and supporting documents for the college application process.
Provide one-on-one college counseling to a caseload of seniors through the admissions cycle including, but not limited to, creating a college list, writing and revising personal statements and essays, advising on financial aid, and making final matriculation decisions.
Work with parents answering questions, explaining the process, providing resources related to their daughters’ college process.
Recruit and arrange strategic college representative visits to SJA.
Collaborate with SJA marketing to promote SJA to colleges and universities.
Build and maintain relationships with colleges and universities to create partnerships benefitting both the school and students.
Track and ensure progress of all college initiatives with SJA students.
Build strong relationships with teachers.
Create communication systems to work effectively with students and parents.
Build the Schools acceptance and matriculation lists..
Attend NACAC every year and present at the conference from time to time.
Work with the principal to chart the course from 9th grade to college acceptance for students generally and specifically, especially if a student shows particular talent in a skill or field and wants to pursue it at the college level.
The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years experience working in a college admissions office or high school College Advising Program. Also:
A passionate commitment to high school student success, especially for girls.
Experience developing early college awareness programs that promote student motivation
A wide range of knowledge of colleges and universities throughout the country, their degree programs, their signature departments, financial aid procedures and undergraduate opportunities for research and programs abroad
Active participation in local, state, and national college admissions counseling events and professional organizations
Appreciation of Catholic Education and an all-girls educational environment
Well established abilities for writing, data gathering and analysis, technology, communication, collaboration, self-motivation, and student engagement
