The Packer Collegiate Institute invites applicants interested in serving as an Upper School Learning Specialist.

Work with students individually and in small groups to teach study skills, organization and planning skills, reading comprehension strategies, writing skills, and provide math support. Collaborate with Upper School Psychologist and Director of Learning Support to to determine if a student qualifies for in-school testing and learning accommodations based on formal testing and classroom data. Create teaching and learning strategy profiles for students with formal testing. Support faculty to understand student learning profiles and to differentiate classroom instruction for students with varied learning styles or specific learning challenges. Participate in grade level meetings and Upper School Student Support Team as appropriate. Provide professional development to teachers around topics related to learner variability. Lead family workshops and talks in collaboration with other learning specialists and Director of Learning Support. Fully manage the application process for requesting accommodations through the College Board and ACT, including acting as a liaison between parents, psychoeducational evaluators, and testing organizations, including summer communication. Maintain active communication with students' families and outside support regarding students' progress, challenges, learning needs. Act as Upper School adviser to students. Teaching experience and Masters Degree in Special Education or closely related field required. NYS Certification in special education and experience with the College Board and ACT accommodations application process preferred.
