The Langley School, a PS-8 independent school in McLean, Virginia, seeks a Math Specialist beginning in August 2018. The math specialist works with all lower school constituencies, but primarily grades 3-5, to promote and support learning and development. In cooperation with the director of resource and other members of the resource department, the math specialist partners with teachers to support students with a variety of learning styles and social and emotional needs. As facilitators of school-wide assessment practices, the resource department collaborates with classroom teachers as they administer, score, and evaluate assessments. The math specialist is an integral member of child study teams, collaborates with colleagues to create and implement action plans for students as needed, and monitors students’ progress in cooperation with classroom teachers and members of the resource department. Additionally, the math specialist provides small and whole group instruction in the lower school.
Master’s degree in education, at least 5 year’s experience teaching many kinds of learners, excellent written and verbal communication skills, willingness to collaborate with colleagues, expertise in mathematics, commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment, and a passion for working with children of all ages required. Strong knowledge of Math in Focus is preferred but not required.
