Sayre School, an independent Pre-K -12 school in Lexington, KY, is seeking a fulltime Spanish teacher to work predominately in the Upper School, grades 9-12, with possibly a Middle School section as well. Our World Language Program offers both Spanish and French, levels one through AP, and students are required to take a language for a minimum of three years. The typical teaching load for language teachers consists of five classes on different levels with two-three preps.
Candidates should possess an advanced mid or higher ranking on the OPI scale in Spanish. All students have laptops, so candidates must also be proficient utilizing technology for language acquisition in the classroom. A Masters degree in Spanish and several years of teaching K-12 experience on a variety of levels is preferable. Candidates should be able to both contribute meaningfully to the development of overall department goals and work independently.
Candidates must bring a love of learning and of languages and cultures to the job, as well as a commitment to work hard and engage each student in their language acquisition. Most importantly, teachers must love working with teenagers as much as they love their subject, and a sense of humor is also valued.
Please email a resume, statement of teaching philosophy and references to Tim O’Rourke, Head of Upper School at email@example.com.
