Hawken School seeks teachers comfortable taking risks and embracing a growth mindset. Our faculty members are constantly looking for new ways to inspire student curiosity while remaining dedicated to nurturing compassion and kindness in our students. We desire culturally competent candidates who clearly appreciate a community of teachers and learners from diverse backgrounds and perspectives and are committed to equity and social justice.
We are committed to using time differently and want faculty members to expand their definition of a classroom. This means designing learning experiences for students that deepen their learning, engaging their emotions as well as their intellects. If you are a teacher-leader who is committed to the ideals of progressive education, and inspired by this description of our community, we encourage you to read on to learn more about this position and our school.
Hawken School is seeking an individual to lead our Upper School science department, comprised of deeply thoughtful individuals who are invested in looking for better ways to engage their students and prepare them to advance in the field of science. The science department moved into a new facility in 2016 which is designed for flexibility and to support an increasingly progressive curriculum. Over the past five years, our STEMM program has grown to include almost a quarter of the Upper School population each year. We have just completed the transition to a Physics first sequence, which has involved a complete redesign of both our Physics and Biology programs.
At this juncture, we seek a strong leader with a progressive vision, an authentic listener and bridge builder who will help teachers to collaborate even more closely on curriculum as we iterate toward excellence. We also desire someone who is excited to support the department in developing new courses for Hawken's unique intensive program, in which twice per year students take just one class for three weeks.
