Aspen Country Day School is seeking a seventh and eighth grade history teacher for the 2018-2019 academic school year. Aspen Country Day School welcomes children from throughout the Roaring Fork Valley from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The school is fully accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools. Middle School: Teaching in the middle school at ACDS is a multi-faceted experience, with the cornerstone being about building relationships. Teachers are responsible for fostering in students a love of learning and the development of skills necessary to be successful. The charge of middle school teachers is to create continuity in students' experiences, including developing central themes and interdisciplinary units, common expectations for student work and behavior, the integration of technology, and the management of students' academic and social well-being. Most middle school faculty also serve as advisers and take on other leadership responsibilities outside of the classroom. Middle school teachers at Aspen Country Day School recognize that working with this age group requires a variety of roles, flexibility, teamwork, a growth mindset, and a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Collaborate with other middle school colleagues to deliver a dynamic and relevant history curriculum
Implement instructional strategies and use clear and consistent classroom management in concert with the school philosophy
Differentiate instruction to meet each student’s educational needs
Proficiently incorporate educational technology in the classroom
Adhere to guidelines, procedures, and policies in the Employee Handbook
Help children with organization, problem solving, and conflict resolution to support individual needs
Communicate professionally and effectively with parents, teachers, administrators and colleagues
Have a professional desire to work in the classroom and continue to develop your teaching skills in the academic disciplines as well as the on-going work of social/ emotional development of children
Supervise students during recesses and lunch time
Participate in multi-day Outdoor Education trips
Participate in ski days during the winter months
Assist with fall classroom move in and spring move out
Use the school’s Blackbaud system for grading, learning management, parent communication, and professional resources
Attend required in-service days, meetings, and training sessions as designated by the Head of School or the Head of the Middle School
Master’s degree preferred
Middle school teaching experience
Strong background in history (ancient civilizations, world history, and U.S. history)
A love and knowledge of middle school-aged children
Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in a progressive, dynamic, 21st century school community
Ability to work in a collegial and highly collaborative environment
A growth mindset, sense of humor, warm personality, and excellent organizational and communication skills
Willingness to serve as an advisor, participate in faculty meetings, contribute to committee work, and contribute to other school-related activities
Planning, preparation, and leadership of the fall eighth grade trip to Washington, DC
