The Upper Campus (grades 7-12) of Sierra Canyon seeks a dynamic and experienced teacher of English to start in late August 2018. We're looking for a teacher who exhibits excellence in the classroom and is focused on helping students develop strong critical reading and writing skills at the Middle School level so they are prepared for the challenging academic program of the Upper School. The primary classroom responsibilities will be teaching grades 7 and 8. We seek a candidate who understands the unique developmental needs of a middle school learner.
Candidate must demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively on team teaching and horizontal and vertical alignment.
Experience with Middle School English is preferred.
Outside of the classroom, teachers are encouraged to lead clubs, engage with students, attend outdoor education trips, etc.
Other responsibilities include those that are normally part of a private independent school commitment such as weekly duties, positive interactions with students and parents, and becoming a member of the community by attending different events.
Experience teaching English at the middle school level.
A masters' degree (preferred).
Interest in and demonstrated skill working with adolescents.
