THIRD GRADE TEACHER | TOWER SCHOOL
REPORTS TO: Head of Lower School CLASSIFICATION: 10 months; Exempt START DATE: Late August 2018 Tower School seeks teaching faculty who demonstrate an interest in participating fully in the life and activities of a highly creative and joyful elementary and middle school, and will contribute to furthering Tower’s mission. Successful candidates will exhibit a great work ethic, a good sense of humor, strong written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to inspire young people.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Prepares motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, child development, and student interests and abilities Employs a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom Encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the diverse perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world Analyzes classroom data to develop lessons and instructional activities Demonstrates a desire to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom Updates curriculum and materials as needed
Teaching and Learning Environment Creates a learning environment that is motivating and age appropriate Embraces the tenets of Project Based Learning and other approaches to experiential learning Sets clear expectations for class work, homework, and behavior in the classroom Demonstrates effective classroom management skills Maintains current books and instructional resources that support classroom learning Seeks to actively know students’ strengths and weaknesses Responds promptly and with care to parent concerns Communicates effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators Maintains an accurate and organized system for monitoring student records Prepares well-thought out and thorough conference notes, report cards, and other written documentation on student progress Maintains substitute plans and engages substitutes in advance when possible
Professional Development Demonstrates a willingness to learn, grow, and improve as a teacher Continues to update knowledge of content areas taught Strives to set meaningful and challenging goals as part of the goal setting and review process with the Head of Lower School Attends and participates appropriately in full, divisional, and departmental/team faculty meetings
School and Community Maintains a positive attitude and approach Supports colleagues Represents Tower School in a positive and mature manner throughout the greater community Participate in Admission and other events throughout the school year Other work-related duties as assigned by administration

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree with prior teaching experience. A Master’s degree is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching elementary mathematics, social studies, and language arts, including training in Guided Reading, Fundations, and Lucy Calkins’ Reading and Writing Workshop models. Candidates must demonstrate excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and possess the ability to work with independence in dealing with the diverse elements of the academic environment. This position requires confidentiality and professionalism.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to walk frequently. The individual may frequently be required to bend or stoop. The individual may frequently be required to lift objects up to 10 pounds.
