Gulliver Preparatory School, a 9-12 independent school in Miami, seeks a full-time teacher librarian to join its library for the 2018-2019 academic year. In accordance with the NAIS Guidelines of Professional Practice, the librarian is a member of the teaching faculty who partners with colleagues to integrate information literacies into the school’s curriculum. In collaboration with teachers, librarians empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
Teacher librarians will:
Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness
Teach research skills, including the use of databases & citation methods
Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
Visit and teach classes on other campuses as applicable and relevant to the curriculum
Understand the school curriculum and develop a collection that enhances both emergent needs and long term teaching goals
Utilize a variety of interactive tools to provide services, information, and tutorials
Maintain a personal commitment to professional growth
Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning including, but not limited to, the use of electronic databases; ebooks; online presentation tools; search widgets on class pages; the use of Google apps; and library mobile apps for devices supported by the BYOD program
Promote the ethical use of information
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching in the International Baccalaureate Program, have worked in a 1:1 technology environment, are comfortable operating in a block schedule, and rely on student-centered pedagogy. Candidates will be expected to collaborate with colleagues in the library and across all Gulliver campuses.
In collaboration with the Library Department Chairperson, the teacher librarian will
Participate in collection development
Maintain accurate usage statistics of subscription resources
Make recommendations about renewals and additions of digital resources on a yearly basis
Promote literacy through various campaigns (e.g., Teen Tech Week, National Library Month, Banned Books Week, etc.)
Provide Reader’s Advisory as needed
Work to ensure that the library and its associated services evolve with the strategic direction and mission of Gulliver Schools.
Education and Experience:
Must have 2 years previous teaching experience. Experience in a library is preferred. Bachelors in Education or related field; Master's degree is a plus and certification in field required; (relevant fields or certification areas include: Information Science, Educational Media, Reading Education or Library Sciences, including state certification.)
Additional Salary Information: relocation up to a maximum of $2,500 beyond 50 miles from Miami
