Pinewood Preparatory School (Summerville, SC) seeks a new Theatre Teacher/Pinewood Stage Company Director (Middle and High School) starting in August 2018.
The Theatre Teacher/Stage Company Director will teach courses in theatre and related arts and will direct all theatre productions including one high school musical. The candidate for this position will be expected to design and maintain a class environment favorable to students’ academic, artistic, and personal growth and to establish effective rapport with students while maintaining proper classroom management. The new teacher/director will be replacing the founder of our theater program and the Pinewood Stage Company.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Teach Middle School and elective High School drama courses including Pinewood’s exceptional Middle School Enrichment program.
Direct all Middle and High School plays including the high school musical. All productions require afterschool and weekend rehearsals.
Serve as primary theater manager for Pinewood’s Freedom Hall flex-space auditorium. This is not a Technical Director position, yet requires a strong functional knowledge of technical theater.
Create a classroom environment that actively engages students and is developmentally appropriate for the age, maturity, and interests of the students.
Advance student participation in local, regional, and national theater competitions.
Market and promote theater productions and workshops to increase attendance.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.
Serve as a homeroom advisor within the school’s advisement program.
Serve as a trip chaperone for Middle School overnight trips.
Perform other related duties as directed by the Head of School, High or Middle School Principals, and the Director of the Arts.
Core Qualifications and Credentials:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in theatre or arts related field.
Proven experience teaching in a school setting and directing excellent theater productions with adolescents and young adults. Experience with both Middle and High School students a plus.
Track record of teaching in an independent school environment would be helpful.
Ability to manage theater budgetary expectations.
