St. Mary’s Episcopal School seeks a Director of Athletics to start in June of 2018. The Director of Athletics will serve as a key member of our administrative team and will report directly to the Head of School. Leading while sustaining a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism and respect at all levels, this individual will balance strategic vision and the details of the day-to-day of our athletics program.
The mission of St. Mary’s Episcopal School is to provide a superior educational experience for girls which will encourage and enable each student to reach her individual potential.
The successful candidate will:
Manage a multi-faceted and growing athletic program that spans a wide-range of ages from lower school through upper school.
Set a strategic vision and plan for the athletics program, in the context of the school’s larger mission, vision, and strategic objectives.
Serve as a role model for athletes and coaches, demonstrating high integrity, excellence and a passion for the school’s mission.
Establish and ensure adherence to athletic program policies and procedures which promote the school’s mission while protecting the health, safety, and wellness of all students.
Supervise athletic schedules for all athletics, grades 3-12.
Communicate with a strong vision, a great attention to detail, and a passion for building programs while maintaining cherished traditions.
Recruit, hire, evaluate, and provide guidance to all coaches to ensure integrity, consistency, and overall excellence in the athletic program.
Develop and manage the athletics budgets, while being an excellent steward of the school’s resources.
Develop and execute an athletic communication plan to effectively inform and update students, parents, coaches, administrators, and alumnae.
Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Embrace the spirit of community through participating in other school activities.
A bachelor’s degree with administrative experience in a competitive and nurturing school environment.
Experience in a similar position, preferably at an independent school.
Coaching experience in a school setting.
Commitment to the principles of the Episcopal Identity of the school and to serving in a diverse community.
Enthusiasm about girls’ education.
Ability to creatively collaborate with and motivate multiple constituencies.
