The Middle School Science Department is seeking candidates for a full-time Science position. Applicants must have a broad background in science topics including both physical and environmental science. Middle School science teaching experience required. (Alternatively: Candidates must have documented experience engaging, challenging, and supporting students learning science at the middle school level.) Sandy Spring Friends School seeks to nurture the whole child, and a successful candidate should have the ability to work with middle school age children who represent a broad range of abilities and learning styles. SSFS seeks teachers who value the importance of issues of diversity and can both share and teach differing points of view.

Qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in Science or closely related field; a master’s degree is desirable. Prior teaching experience in a middle school setting is necessary. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and communication skills, and experience working with cooperative and differentiated instruction. Familiarity with Quaker education and the Developmental Designs or Responsive Classroom approach would be advantageous. Knowledge of Quaker beliefs and practices is helpful, but not required.
Physical Requirements: Extensive sitting, standing, squatting, and bending as necessary in a school teaching environment; the ability to navigate stairs and general mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; lifting/carrying boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
