Hawken School seeks an innovative middle school mathematics educator. We are committed to teaching mathematics through pattern recognition, problem solving, and interdisciplinary application in all of our courses. Our classes leverage multiple mathematical tools and representations to enhance student exploration, learning, and discovery with embedded use of technologies such as 1:1 laptops, Desmos, TI-Nspire software, Computer Algebra Systems (CAS), GeoGebra, and others. We are beginning to explore the use Concepts-Based Grading as a feedback framework in our middle school courses. We seek candidates willing to dive into these new initiatives with an open mind and collaborative spirit.
Teaching four 8th grade classes
Including three sections of Algebra using the College Preparatory Mathematics curriculum and one accelerated section of Geometry
Prepared to incorporate important aspects of mathematics such as statistics, technology-enhanced and other student-centered exploration in all courses
Advising and overseeing the academic and social growth of 12-15 advisees
Serving on the 8th grade team to plan, develop, and assess co-curricular activities and coordinate student support in alignment with Hawken's mission
Serving as a productive member of the Middle School Mathematics Department
Coaching and/or supervising a long standing club or substantial student activity
Engaging in school life and other duties as assigned

Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field is required. An advanced degree and at least three years of experience are preferred. In addition, we seek candidates with:
A willingness to learn from, contribute to, and lead amongst a collaborative and thoughtful mathematics team and across disciplines both in and out of the classroom
Joyful enthusiasm, flexibility, good humor, and a team spirit necessary for working within a dynamic department serving middle school learners individually and in groups
Familiarity with diverse ways of engaging students over a range of learning styles enhanced by a desire to try new approaches
A continuous commitment to improve one's own growth, particularly with technology as applied to best practices in education
